frequently asked questions

  • How do I know if I need therapy?

If you are considering therapy, it would most likely be beneficial for you. Most people wait longer than they should to reach out for help. Therapy is not only for times of crisis.

  • How long will I need to be in therapy?

Therapy is a process that varies for each person and couple. The length of treatment will depend on your specific goals and desires. With that said, I tell people to expect approximately 15-20 sessions.

  • What can I expect from our first session?

Prior to your first session, you will complete paperwork including basic information about yourself and a consent for treatment. We will talk about your history and what is bringing you to therapy, and we will create goals for our time together. At the end of the session, we will discuss if I am the right fit for you and if you would like to schedule another session.

  • What if I decide I don’t want to continue therapy with you?

You are not stuck with a therapist who is not right for you. If we are not a good fit, I encourage you to let me know. I want all of my clients to feel comfortable with their therapist, so I will happily provide you with referrals to therapists who could be a better fit for working with you.

  • What does therapy cost? Do you take insurance?

I charge $125 per 50-minute session. I am currently paneled with a handful of insurance companies. Feel free to reach out and we can see if utilizing your insurance would be a viable option for you!

  • Are you LGBTQIA+ friendly?

Yes, I offer a non-judgemental and safe space for all people. I am not a member of the LGBTQIA+ community myself, but I advocate for everyone regardless of their gender, sexual identity, or orientation.

  • Is online therapy as effective as in person therapy?

Online therapy is equally effective as in person therapy. Some people actually prefer it because they can be comfortable in their own home and do not have to allocate time for travel. After COVID-19, online therapy has become much more accepted and is offered by the majority of therapeutic providers.

  • Can my partner and I be in different locations?

Yes, you and your partner can be in different locations for therapy sessions. You must both be physically located in the state of Texas at the time of the session.

  • How does confidentiality work?

Confidentiality is important to me, so I will do everything in my power to protect your privacy. With that said, there are some circumstances in which I am required to break confidentiality, which are clearly outlined in my informed consent document. If you have any specific questions, please feel free to inquire further.
